Notting Hill
Anika Hiremath
A heart-warming romantic movie - definitely brings a smile to your face. It's the classic: famous actress meets a nobody and falls in love, but the movie has its own flair which definitely makes it a must-see for anyone, maybe it's the acting, or the actors, or the simplicity of the plot, or perhaps the combination of them all, whatever it is, it works like a charm. And if I, as a person who doesn't watch very many romance movies, enjoyed the movie, I'd like to think that most others would thoroughly be pleased by it too.

The Breakfast Club
Anika Hiremath
The Breakfast Club, ah where to start? Every single dialogue of the movie can be a stand-alone quote - that is how powerful and relatable the movie is. This single movie touches upon a myriad of issues such as parental abuse, familial issues, suicide, peer pressure, archetypes and stereotypes, expectations, pressure to perform, the reality of high schools, and the societal status quo. There are so many issues in one movie but all handled so very gracefully and carefully with a lot of candor. It is most definitely a must-watch movie and should be on everyone's movies-to-watch list.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Anika Hiremath
A bit of an odd movie at first glance: quite rapid, weirdly basic plot, no climax per se, narration-based, many different colors. But actually, in its own rather unique and surreal and comical way, it appreciates and mourns the loss of a part of British culture (the grandiose of aristocrats, the artistic and intellectual English world) to the modern and globalized world. In a rather unexpected manner, The Grand Budapest Hotel also celebrates friendship, kinship, love, dignity, refinement, culture, poise, and elegance. A tip for future viewers, try and view the film from a perspective of surrealism rather than realism, you'll find that you will enjoy the movie a tad bit better :)
